Susan Dewey, Artist
Susan Dewey is an fifth-generation Idahoan, born and raised in Southeast Idaho and the second of seven children. She graduated from Idaho State University with a degree in Paralegal Studies and spent her professional career in the financial and legal fields. Her final position was with the law firm of Smith, Woolf, Anderson & Wilkinson, where she worked in family law. She retired in 2020.
In 2012, Susan and her husband, David, moved from Pocatello to Idaho Falls so she could help care for her ailing parents. Susan has two children, Jennifer and Daniel, as well as four grandchildren.
Susan’s love of watercolor began about 25 years ago when, while browsing in a bookstore, she decided she wanted to learn to paint. After purchasing paints, brushes, and paper, her very young son-in-law told her watercolor was too difficult and that she was wasting her money. Determined to prove him wrong, Susan took a class and discovered she loved it. Life eventually got in the way, and her supplies went into a box for many years.
In 2024 Susan returned to art as a creative outlet. She began with loose florals but soon discovered a love for botanical rendering and its delicate lines and intricate details.
For Susan, painting those fine lines is peaceful and calming. She also loves vibrant color and believes watercolor can be bright, bold, and beautiful.
As her art developed, Susan began creating greeting cards, prints, books, and other handmade paper goods. For her, making cards is a way to share her talent with others.
Today, Susan continues to find joy in painting flowers, nature, and the beauty found in everyday life—one carefully painted line at a time.
